Header behavior

Post by Virgil »

I'm having a problem putting chapter names in headers.

Attached is a document I prepared for fun. It is a booklet reviewing Atlantis and comparing it with LaTeX.

I used different headers for odd and even numbered paragraphs. On the left side, even numbered pages, I put the document title. No problem there.

But, on the right side odd numbered page headers, I put in the Chapter title, controlled by the Header 2 style. The problem is that on some pages in Chapter 2 (pages 7 and 9), the header picked up the title to Chapter 3, which doesn't start until page 13. The Page 11 header is correct.

If I open the file in MS Word, I get the right information in my headers, but the formatting is off.

I'm using Atlantis 1.6.5.7 with Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio.

Any thots?

A quick correction.

My chapter titles are governed by the Header 1 style, not Header 2.

I input the Header 1 style as a field in the right-sided headers.

Thanks for the document file.

There is a bug in the current public version of Atlantis 1.6.5.7: "style reference" fields do not display correctly in documents with footnotes/endnotes.

This bug is fixed in the upcoming release of Atlantis (1.6.5.8). It should be available for betatesting in the next few days.

Hi Virgil,
If you often type words that are wrongly hyphenated by Atlantis, you can add these words to a custom list of hyphenation patterns. Simply press the “Customize…” button in the “Tools | Hyphenation…” dialog, and add, for example, “Open-Office” to your list. “OK” out of all dialogs. From then on, “OpenOffice” will always be hyphenated as “Open-Office” in all your documents.

I hope I won’t sound overly nit-picking, but in the phrase “it’s raw typographic capabilities”, “its” is a possessive. As such it should be written without apostrophe.

By the way, I share your taste for Courier New as an editing font. :)
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

I just downloaded the new beta version, and the style-controlled headers and footers seem to work just fine.

Thanks.
