suppressing header on first page

Post by olddicedealer »

How can I suppress the header on the first page of a manuscript and still keep the page numbering right?

Hi,
It all depends what you mean by “keep the page numbering right”.

Let’s suppose that you want the page numbering to start with number 2 on the actual second page. Here are the steps:

1. Open the document in Atlantis.
2. Press F6 to display the Control Board if it isn’t already displaying. Click to show the Control Board “Sections” panel, select “Section 1”, then check “Different header and footer on the first page of Section 1”.
3. Run the “View | Header & Footer” main menu command.
4. Place the insertion point within the second page header. Use the special Header toolbar to insert the page number (or press “Shift+Alt+P”).

Now let’s suppose that you want the page numbering to start with number 1 on the actual second page. Here are the steps:

1. Open the document in Atlantis.
2. Place the insertion point at the very end of page 1.
3. Click “Insert | Break | Section Break > Next Page”.
4. Run the “View | Header & Footer” main menu command.
5. Place the insertion point within the second page header.
6. Use the special Header toolbar to toggle “Same as previous” off (4th button from the right).
7. Click “Page numbering format” on the special Header toolbar (3rd button from the left).
8. In the “Page Numbering Format” dialog, check “Start at” and choose “1” as the starting number. OK out of the dialog.
9. Click “Insert page number” on the special Header toolbar (or press “Shift+Alt+P”).

HTH.
