Really strange happenings

Post by Sentosa »

I am evaluating Atlantis, latest beta, for use on a Dell Inspron using WinXP. Also using the touch pad.
I use the TouchPad in place of a normal mouse.
I use RTF as my default file format.

This is what happens: I work on editing a file by making corrections, adding text, deleting text, and copying and pasting. All normal things.

Without any warning, I find that in the middle of the above actions, the cursor randomly jumps to another position on the page. Part of what I am typing remains in the original cursor position, while the remainder ends up in the "new" cursor position. This happens regularly and repeatedly.

Initially, I thought the problem might lie with the Notebook. I reinstalled the operating system and utilities. I reinstalled Atlantis. Unfortunately the problem persists.

Still believing the problem might be Notebook related, I decided to check further. I installed a copy of WordPerfect 12. I opened several of the files with which I have had the problems described above. I also created new files. The problem of random cursor movement is not replicated in WordPerfect.

So, nothing daunted, I opened MS Word 2002 (10.4030.2625) and ran the same checks. The problem of random cursor movement is not replicated in MS Word.

Any comments or suggestions?

Hi Sentosa,
This isn’t really specific to Atlantis. It often happens with MS Word 2007+ too. Actually, it is a common problem with touchpads. In some cases the touchpad is so sensitive that typing causes it to relocate the cursor. This is definitely a problem with the touchpad sensitivity. Try turning down your touchpad sensitivity, or switching it off altogether when you are typing. You could also try updating your touchpad driver.
Please, have a look at the following threads:
