Saving the clippy bank

Post by andygrunt »

I use the clippy bank to write various temp’ things that I don’t want/need to be a long term saved document e.g. when writing longish emails. Although I don’t want to keep these docs long term I find I do want to ensure they’re saved while I'm working on them, for example just in case Atlantis crashes (I know it’s rare but it happens).

With normal docs, I have the habit of pressing Ctrl-S every few minutes so I’m assured my work is safe. But, Clippy Bank doesn’t work in the same way (as far as I know) – for example, when the text changes, the floppy disk ‘save’ icon doesn’t change to indicate it needs saving and pressing Ctrl-S therefore doesn’t change it back to indicate it’s been saved.

So, how does the saving work on the clippy bank ‘page’ work? Is it only saved when I exit from clippy bank or Atlantis is closed? Does it save when I press Ctrl-S? Would it be an idea for it to use the ‘save’ icon as normal docs do?

Hi Andy,
The current Clippy Bank contents are automatically saved at intervals, and they are also automatically saved when you shut Atlantis down. They are saved to “<My Documents>\Atlantis Clippy Bank.rtf”. So pressing Ctrl+S won’t really help.

Now if you want to create your own “safe copies” of the Clippy Bank, you could use the “File | Save Special > Save to Backups” main menu command, or the corresponding toolbar button Image.
Alternatively, you could use the “File | Save As…” main menu command (F12 function key).
Another option would be to use the “File | Save Special > Save Copy As…”
HTH,
Cheers,
Robert

It is correct. But Atlantis automatically saves the curent Clippy Bank contents only when the "Safeguard every XX minutes" option is enabled on the "Load/Save" tab of the "Tools | Options..." dialog of Atlantis. This option is on by default.
