Opening minimized

Post by harolnick »

This must be the pettiest query yet. When I open Atlantis, the screen is mminized (not minimized to the system tray, just half the size on the screen), so I have to pretty the maxmize tab to make it full-size.

Any solutions?

Thanks

Sorry, not "pretty" the maximize tab, but "press" it.

If you right click on the icon you use to run it, you should pick properties and in the ‘Run’ field select ‘Maximized’ then OK that and try again. It should then run full screen.

Thanks so much.I had tried this before, so this time made a new shortcut to Atlantis, running it maximized in properties, with same result.

Then I put down minimized and minimized to system tools---but all three commands produced the same half-window for Atlantis (which is quickly maximized by an extra step)

In other words, the propeties is glued down.

It's hardly worth fretting over, of course. But if you can think of a simple solution during your much more producive time, great.

In the meantime, thanks again.

P.S. I tried the same properties experiment on other programs, and they worked just fine; maximizing to the screen, minimixing to the sytem tray and appearing and giving a nice "normal" look.

Just Atlantis seems to be stuck.

Could you please tell us which Windows system and which version of Atlantis you are running?

Hi,
You could try running Atlantis with a special command-line. The standard command-line is “C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe”. Please, try running “C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe -m”, with the “-m” switch.
Atlantis should open in a maximized window.

Thanks, as always. I use Atlantis 1.6 on Windows XP Professional.

Now here comes my ignorance. I tried pasting your suggestion, C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe -m?, into the "Target line of the properties, but that wasn't accepted. So may I humbly ask where to paste this in?

Apologies for abject ignorance!!!

(P.S. I mistakenly sent this as a private message)

Hi Harry,
I have XP too. Strangely enough, I had to enter the “-m” switch after the program command-line itself, i.e. outside the quotes, like this:

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe" -m

Harry,
1. Right-click the Atlantis Desktop icon or Start Menu item.
2. Select “Properties”.
3. Clear the “Target” box of the Properties dialog.
4. Copy/paste the following command-line into this same “Target” box (with quotes):

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe" -m
5. OK out of the dialog to validate your changes.

I followed your instructions to the letter. Cleared the target box, pasted in your exact line, and the computer happily accepted it. Then with elation verging on euphoria, I went into Atlantis and.....

Well, still the half box.

I think there must be something wrong with Windows (revenge to the non-nerd?), but nothing seems to work.

But it's such a minor problem that you should't spend any more time on it. If a sudden inspiration inspires you, great. Otherwise, your attempts have been great.

Harry,
Of course, this should not be happening. Something (some third-party application or firewall) might be interfering with the display of the Atlantis window.

Anyway, as a last resort, you could try this approach:

1. Launch Atlantis.
2. Maximize its window.
3. Open the “Tools | Options…” dialog.
4. Press the “Save to File…” button.
5. Save your current configuration as “Atlantis.ini”. Replace any previous version of “Atlantis.ini” if necessary.
6. OK out of the Options dialog.
7. Close Atlantis.
8. Right-click the Atlantis Desktop icon or Start Menu item.
9. Select “Properties”.
10. Clear the “Target” box of that Properties dialog.
11. Copy/paste the following command-line into this same “Target” box (with quotes):

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe" -lsi
12. OK out of the dialog to validate your changes.
13. Rerun Atlantis using the modified desktop icon or Start menu item. This should normally force Atlantis to start with the saved configuration, including a maximized window.

Hi, Robert. Followed your insructions to the letter--absolutely!!! Same problem.....Screen comes up half size.

But actually no problem, since it's now a reflex action to open it and press the maximize tab.

Also, this ain't the season for such insignificant problems. Maybe after the New Year, I'll reinstall Atlantis (though will have to ask for help not to lose things!)

In the meantime, all the best for the holidays, thanks for Atlantis which is almost perfect (as an editor, I still have to use Word for tracking changes), and especially thanks for all your help on this miniature challenge for us spoiled computer-users.

Hi Harry,
It’s me again with one more suggestion! I found this tip on a few forums. It did not relate to Atlantis specifically but it might work all the same.

1. First of all, close all open windows/applications, including Atlantis if necessary.
2. Right-click the Atlantis Desktop icon or Start Menu item.
3. Select “Properties”.
4. Clear the “Target” box of that Properties dialog.
5. Copy/paste the following command-line into this same “Target” box (with quotes):

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe"
6. OK out of the dialog to validate your changes.
7. Rerun Atlantis using the modified desktop icon or Start menu item, but do not maximize its window with the standard “Maximize Window” command(s).
8. Instead, grab the corners of the Atlantis window with your mouse and drag them out until you get what would normally be a “maximized” window size.
9. Close the Atlantis window using “File | Exit”.
10. Rerun Atlantis and click on the “Maximize” button on the right of the Atlantis title bar.
11. Close the Atlantis window using “File | Exit”.

Hopefully, the next time you run Atlantis, it should open in a maximized window. :)

HTH.

Robert

Harry, could you please do the following:

1) launch Atlantis,
2) press the "Print Screen" key (it should be just next to the F12 key on your keyboard),
3) create a new document in Atlantis by pressing Ctrl+N,
4) press Ctrl+V in Atlantis to paste the clipboard content,
5) press Ctrl+S to save the active document to a file,
6) attach that document file to your forum post.

To Robert: Tis a Christmas Miracle!!! That hybrid solution of opening Atlantis and then using all my physical strength to lug it to the right size (well, virtual physical strength) actually worked.

In fact, to test things, I rebooted the computer, and it still worked again

As I always knew, the computer was prophecised in the Book of Job, to test our beliefs despite every hazard and torture. .

So many thanks again, and may your holidays (like my Atlantis windows) be always aximized!!!

To Admin: Robert gave me, finally the solution, so now I can open maximized. (See preceding reply). But since you asked for it, here, attached, is the screen in all its glory. The "problem", which is hardly a problem at all, is now repaired.

And I can go back to my daily writer's chore of procrastination.

Have a happy holiday and successful 2011

Harry

OK, if you say that the problem is now repaired. By the way, your testdoc.doc is blank. There is no screen capture.
