I'm working on converting some of my books to ePubs, and I keep reading that some of the eReaders have trouble with hyphens and special characters. Are there things that I should especially watch out for?
I have a tilda ~ once in one book,
I have fractions (I have been doing 1/4 as "1 / 4" and Atlantis has been superscripting the 1 and subscripting the 4 -- I think -- but will that work or do I need to insert a special character for the fraction?),
I have occasional French words with tepees and slashmarks over e's, etc.,
I have smart quotes,
and I have plenty of em dashes, en dashes, and hyphens.
Are all of these going to cause problems? Are there recommended work-arounds?

The only way to find out if your eBook will display correctly on eReaders is to test it with all major eBook readers. Here is from the Atlantis Word Processor Help:
You can also try embedding fonts in your eBook. When you have converted a document to the EPUB format, it is a good idea to test the resulting .epub file in as many eBook readers as possible. For this, use any available devices like the iPhone, the Sony Reader, and Mobipocket. You can also test it at Bookworm, a platform for storing and reading EPUB books online. Finally, you can install an eBook reader on your Windows system: Adobe Digital Editions, Sony eBook Library Software, and Mobipocket Reader Desktop are free.
Thank you!

I was wondering if there were things that I could know in advance that were likely to cause problems, so I could fix them before I got to the testing stage. However, it sounds like I might need to forge ahead, test, and then correct anything that causes trouble.
