TOC problems

Post by khobar »

Hi folks,

I seem to still be struggling with keeping my TOC correct. Sometimes the "heading1" extends backwards to the previous page, so the TOC gets confused. When I go to the previous page and change heading1 to normal, that changes the heading1 to normal on the following page. But only sometimes.

What's causing this (IOW, is there something I can look for in particular)?

Most probably you have page breaks or line breaks within a paragraph. When you apply a style to this paragraph, it obviously gets applied to both parts of the paragraph (before and after a break).

Please enable the "View | Special Symbols" mode of Atlantis. Do you have any break symbol immediately before the heading text?

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I do as you suggested, I see "Section break - (odd page)" appearing on an affected page. In one example I added several CRLF to move the section break and that worked.

I'm using the section break to keep all my chapters beginning on odd numbered pages, but I'm still editing so it *seems* this is moving things around. For example, I'm looking at a chapter that is physically located starting on Page 8. I don't know why it's placed there, but there is no section break associated with it anymore, and the TOC says it begins on Page 7.

Hmm...it seems adding and removing page breaks can affect the section break location.

Sorry to go on - sometimes when I type things it helps me work through the problem.
