quick work around for missing tables

Post by ronz »

Not sure if this is a easier to program than developing tables for Atlantis....
but if you could expand the options for the columns feature so that you could:

Select 2 or more col umns for a section of a page rather than the entire page, you would be able to create a table-like structure.

Turn on and turn off text flow from one column to the next, again so that text in the 1st column stays in the first column.

Add borders to the columns, not just vertical lines between columns, so you can create the appearance of a table or box.
or. create text boxes.

Only issue and probably the greatest challenge to incorporating tables into Atlantis is making it 100% compatible with Word.

one more table idea

A long, long time ago when pure ascii text-based editors were popular (think Boxer, the original TED, Simple text Editor, vedit, etc.), some of these programs allowed you to create boxes using ascii-based characters vertical and horizontal lines, etc. You could create a box using these characters and have text inside. it was tedious and time consuming but a nice addition to these ancient programs.

Hi Ronz,
Select 2 or more columns for a section of a page rather than the entire page, you would be able to create a table-like structure.
If you select one or several paragraphs on a page and apply column formatting to it (“Format | Columns…”), Atlantis will automatically insert the corresponding fragment of text between “continuous section breaks”. In many ways, this is an isolated “table-like structure”.
Turn on and turn off text flow from one column to the next, again so that text in the 1st column stays in the first column.
Turning text flow off in a column is done by inserting a “column break” (Ctrl+Shift+Enter or “Insert | Break > Column Break”). Any text entered after the column break is automatically shifted to the next column.
Add borders to the columns, not just vertical lines between columns, so you can create the appearance of a table or box.
As things stand, you cannot add borders as such in Atlantis. But you can add a vertical line between adjacent columns to emphasize the break between them (see the “Line between” check box in the “Format | Columns…” dialog).

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Robert,

Thank you. I'm a new comer to Atlantis. I'll try those short cuts out next time I use Atlantis. Thanks again.
