Atlantis Word Processor 1.6.5.1
Atlantis Word Processor 1.6.5.1 with a new Draft viewing mode is available for betatesting.
Sorry to be awkward but my preferred option for this type of view would be like the 'Print Layout' view (i.e. centred on screen while showing the margins and left and right edges of the 'paper' with the grey 'desktop' behind) but with the headers and footers removed and no page join visible i.e. one continuous sheet.
Always good to have new features though - thanks.

What you are asking for is much closer to the "Hide white space between pages" option available in MS Word 2007:andygrunt wrote:Sorry to be awkward but my preferred option for this type of view would be like the 'Print Layout' view (i.e. centred on screen while showing the margins and left and right edges of the 'paper' with the grey 'desktop' behind) but with the headers and footers removed and no page join visible i.e. one continuous sheet.

You are actually asking for a new feature (a new view mode) because the Draft mode is supposed to work in Atlantis in the way it currently works (ie no page-related stuff under the Draft mode).
Could you please be more specific: which version of MS Word you refer to?Eduardo wrote:Thanks for a very useful feature. I've tried it and I like it. However, I think that the "Draft" view would benefit more if it worked like the "Normal" view in Word - assuming new configuration for margins (either standard or user preferences) that would show minimal margins, totally independent from "Print Layout". We would get more text visible and also 'Full screen mode"would benefit.
I hope this function is feasible to implement.
Thanks.
Eduardo
P.S. The idea would be of an internal margin change to be a new default in "Draft view" (as wide as possible), totally independent from "Print Layout".
As far as I know, the Normal view mode of MS Word never was independent from the page settings (page width and margins) used under the "Print Layout" mode. By the way, in MS Word 2007 there is no "Normal" view mode anymore. It is now called "Draft".
The Draft view mode cannot be independent from the "page width" setting of the document. Otherwise some document formatting (like tab stop positions) might work incorrectly. Solely theoretically, a modification of the current Draft view mode could utilize the entire width of the document window to display text. But it would be a quite different mode from what is available in MS Word. There would be a number of additional limitations and side-effects.
If you need a wider working area under the Draft view mode of Atlantis, I can suggest a simple workaround. Just go to the "File | Page Settings..." dialog of Atlantis, and specify a larger page width. Or even simpler, switch to the Landscape page orientation.
Thanks for your reply.
The version of Word I was refereeing to is Word 2003 (professional edition).
I tried your suggestion to change margins, something that I thought about prior to posting here. I didn't opt for that due to the changes regarding the whole document.
The full potential of the draft mode would be (in my opinion) of the use of the whole screen - no page interruptions, minimal margins. As is (even in landscape), all the text aligns to the left leaving a "waisted"space on the right.
If I press the keys (control+wheel forward) to increase the type size, some text becomes invisible on my left margin.
The benefit of Draft mode working like Word 2003 'Normal"mode is the gain in terms of the number of text visible in 1 page - approximately 1.5 pages.
My suggestion (if possible) would be the draft mode to work more or less like the print preview, regarding the positioning of text. For example on my computer, I have it set the zoom to 179% which allows me to review easier the whole document.
Cheers.

Hi Eduardo,I think that the "Draft" view would benefit more if ... we would get more text visible and also 'Full screen mode"would benefit.
Have you tried selecting the “Text Width” zooming factor? Then the Draft view, and finally the Full Screen mode? How does it look like? I thought it might be what you’re after.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
Could you please make a screen capture of the MS Word window under the Normal view mode with "unlimited" page width, and attach it to your post?Eduardo wrote:The version of Word I was refereeing to is Word 2003 (professional edition).
Hi Robert,
Yes, it it possible to see the ruler. It can be checked on or off.
I forgot to mention that in order to have the Normal mode view the way I have it, I had to select it. Word doesn't have it set by default. Here are the steps I took:
-Tools
-View
(in this panel there are 2 options to select from:)
- wrap to window
- draft font (size and type)
I hope this helps.
Take care.

Thanks for the info, Eduardo. I must say that I personally was not aware of the "wrap to window" option in MS Word. In one of my earlier posts to this thread, I said that there would be a number of additional limitations and side-effects of such a "wrap-to-window" Draft view mode. And I can see them all if I enable the "wrap to window" option of MS Word. The "Right indent" box of the ruler does not indicate the proper indent anymore. And the positions of tab stops beyond the "ruler area" are hardly predictable.Eduardo wrote:I forgot to mention that in order to have the Normal mode view the way I have it, I had to select it. But I agree that having a similar option ("Wrap to window") in Atlantis might be useful in some situations. It will be implemented in Atlantis. I will have more details later.
The latest beta version of Atlantis has a new option "Draft view: wrap to window".
You can find details here.

I don't know how many times I publicly expressed my appreciation for the Atlantis team, a software company that shows such exemplar and rare attitude towards ethics, hard work and consideration for its customers.
Once again, many thanks for such a useful feature that makes writing and editing much easier and pleasurable.
