Suggested Replacements in Right-Click Menu

Post by mikespeir »

I hate to be bellyaching all the time, but this has become annoying. When I misspell a word and right-click on it, why is only one possible replacement suggested at the top of the menu? At least as often as not it's not even the one needed. For instance, I accidentally typed "ari" when I meant "air." The suggestion" was "are." Now, what makes "are" a likelier possibility than "air" in that case? Why can't several of the top contenders be listed? I've thought it might be some kind of setting, but if so, I can't find it.

Hi Mike,
If I type “ari”, I get the following suggestions in the right-click context menu (in that order):

are
air
art
arm
sari
aril

These seem quite appropriate to me. Atlantis cannot second-guess whether we mean to type “air” rather than “are”. What's more, we are likely to type “are” a lot more often than “air”.
Cheers,
Robert

Atlantis reorders suggestions according to the statistical information collected by the Power Type. Atlantis assumes that "are" is a more probable suggestion than "air" because you typed "are" more often than "air". This is why "are" is moved to the top of the list of suggestions.

Thanks, Robert. I seem to recall getting a list like that at one time. Now I only get a single word.

admin,

That makes sense enough. I just don't understand why Robert gets a whole list of words and I only get one. Could it be something to do with the fact that I'm using Vista 64?

Do you get only one suggestion for any misspelt word?

Maybe something is wrong with the spellchecker files of your Atlantis, and this problem is linked to your recent problem with your user dictionary.

I only get one suggestion in the menu, but I get several (if there are several, obviously) if I select Spellcheck... under the Tools menu. In the case of "ari" those are the same as Robert reported above. So my dictionary seems to be good.

Yes, it is a Vista-specific bug of Atlantis. It will be fixed in any next release of Atlantis.

Thanks for reporting this.
