Is this little mark supposed to be there?

Post by 357mag »

When I recently spelled the word creme in a document I noticed Atlantis wants to place some kind of black mark over the first e in the letter. Is this a bug or is that supposed to be there? Kind of a language specific thing or something?

I'm using version 1.6.1.9.

The AutoCorrect of Atlantis replaces "creme" with "crème". You can remove the corresponding "Replace ... With ..." pair from the "Tools | AutoCorrect Options..." dialog of Atlantis if you do not need it:

By the way, the latest version of Atlantis is 1.6.4.1. The simplest way to upgrade your copy of Atlantis is through the "Help | Check for Updates..." menu command.

Accent

The little black mark is called an accent. This particular one is called accent grave - this is the one which slants down to the right. I would keep it there if I were you: My dictionary shows that it is correct to spell it with an accent in English, because it is a French word.

The French are very fond of accents. They also have accent aigu, which goes up (like in allé) and accent circonflexe which goes first up, then down: hôtel.
