Atlantis 1.6.4 seizing up

Post by Peter Merton »

I received an email about an hour ago advising that Atalntis 1.6.4 is now available for download. I proceeded to download from your website and then installed Atlantis. About 5 seconds after launching the program it seized up with the cursor frozen in one of the three documents which always open upon launching the program. What can the problem be? After getting out of the program (End Now etc.) I have started it up again numerous times, and each time it freezes up after about 5 seconds. Can you help me? At present I am unable to use Atlantis and eagerly await your reply.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Vista 64, btw. I've had to return to 1.6.3 until the problem's solved.

It seems that you have corrupt "Overused Words" data in the Registry. Probably the Power Type is disabled in your Atlantis, and you did not use the "Tools | Overused Words..." command of Atlantis recently. Otherwise there would be the same problem in either version of Atlantis (1.6.2, 1.6.3, or 1.6.4). It seems that the only fault of the latest version of Atlantis is that it revealed those corrupt settings.

It would be great to find out how the settings got corrupt, of course.

As for now, please click the following link to download a ZIP file with a small utility:

{This file is not available for download anymore.
The functionality mentioned above is available in the standard version of Atlantis.}

Please close Atlantis, unpack & launch this utility. It would reset the settings of the "Overused Words" feature of Atlantis in the Registry. Launch the latest version of Atlantis.

Can you now run the latest version of Atlantis?

The zip file to reset Oversued Words seems to have sorted the problem out. Atlantis loaded, froze for a couple of seconds obviously while the zip file did its wordk, and then all seems fine. Incidentally, Power Type is always activated when I use Atlantis. Thanks for your help. Peter.

I'm not absolutely sure I'm fixed, either. Last night, a while after my previous post here, I was editing some work. I typed a comma and a space and it locked up again, seemingly in response to what I had typed. This time, though, it was particularly bad. I had to do a hard shut down and subsequent boot of the system. But I will say it hasn't happened since. And I am using Vista, so you never know.

We have discovered a few bugs in Atlantis 1.6.4. They have been just fixed, and a new maintenance build 1.6.4.1 has been posted to the site.

I cannot say if those bugs caused the problems that you reported. But please upgrade your copy of Atlantis anyway. As always the simplest way to upgrade is the "Help | Check for Updates..." menu command.

Please report any abnormal behavior you encounter.

Atlantis does not not upgrade from help check for update, it has not for the past few updates, I have to update manually from the Atlantis web site. It says Atlantis has to close to update, Atlantis closes then nothing hapens.

medion,

I was having the same problem. Turns out, Norton Internet Security was seeing the update file as suspicious and wouldn't let it download. When I want to do an update I have to turn off my anti-virus until it's done.

Don't know that's your problem, but could be.

Hi,
The Comodo Firewall is smart enough to ask if it should allow the process and if it should switch to “installation mode”… 8)

Thanks the Atlantis team, as ever the speed the bugs are sorted out are legendry to this word processor. As quoted from a software review site ( Atlantis has one of the best support forums on the net) so very true.

This is still not completely fixed. After typing and trying to use a drop down menu the typing curser takes a while to change to the arrow curser, sometimes I have to keep clicking the mouse button to get the curser to change, or even close Atlantis and restart. This only happens with Atlantis no other software on my pc has this.

If Atlantis stops responding for a few seconds per session, it is a normal behavior. Atlantis needs to load the module with the inflected forms required by the Power Type feature.

I don't have power type enabled and it only started on the most recent updates.
