Convert smart quotes to plain quotes

Post by Redrover »

I understand how to apply either smart or plain quotes to a new document. What I can't figure out it how to change an existing large document that's riddled with smart quotes to all plain quotes.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Redrover,
Here is how to do it:

1. Uncheck the “Autocorrect as you type” option in “Tools | AutoCorrect Options…”
2. Display the Clippy Bank ("F8").
3. Type a quote mark, select it, copy it to the Windows clipboard (Ctrl+C).
4. Open your document, go to the top of the document, and select the first left curly quote.
5. Press Ctrl+H to open the Find/Replace dialog.
6. Click in the Replace With box, and press Ctrl+V.
7. Press “Replace All”. Close the Find/Replace dialog.
8. Go back to the top of your document, and select the first right curly quote.
9. Press Ctrl+H to open the Find/Replace dialog.
10. Click in the Replace With box, and press Ctrl+V.
11. Press “Replace All”.

Cheers,
Robert
