Emdash

Post by Redrover »

Some publishers foam at the mouth at the sight of an emdash. They require that -- (hyphen hyphen) be used instead. I created a moderately large document using the hyphen hyphen standard and now need a copy with emdash instead (for those publishers who begin to twitch and spasm at the sight of hyphen hyphen).

I have autocorrect switched on but I cannot see how to instruct search and replace to change all instances of -- to emdash.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi,
The HTML "mdash" or "em dash" character is also called "Long Dash".
Here is how to replace all "--" characters with "em dashes":

1. Press Ctrl+H.
2. Type "--" in the Find box.
3. Use the "pilcrow" (paragraph end mark) button to the right of the Replace With entry box, and insert a "Long Dash". Alternatively, you can type "^+" directly in the Replace With entry box.
4. Press the "Replace All" button.

Cheers,
Robert
