I have a document that is a numbered list. It goes from 1 to about 34 or so. At times I have to go in there and make changes. Like I may have to add a new entry or delete a line.
Problem is when I do that it screws up my numbering. So now I have to manually change every entry so the numbering is consecutive and in order.
I figure there must be a way to have Atlantis automatically "adjust" the numbering. There must be a way that Atlantis can renumber the list to compensate for my new entries or deletions.
Could you tell me how to do this?
How do you re-number a list?
Atlantis would renumber list items if you formatted your document text as an automatic numbered list. As I understand, you are not familiar with the automatic lists (bulleted or numbered) in Atlantis. It would be great if you read the corresponding topics of the Atlantis Help because it is hard to suggest step-by-step instructions without having your document.
Anyway if your document text looks like this:
-------------------------------
1. Text text text
2. Text text text
3. Text text text
...
-------------------------------
you could select all the text in your document (just press Ctrl+A), and click the "Numbering"
toolbar button.

Suggestion 1 - If the list is uninterrupted:
I'd suggest, stripping all the numbers off, selecting the lines you want to number and pressing the Atlantis numbered list button. After that, you should find you can add and delete items and they are correctly numbered, automatically.
Suggestion 2 - If the list is broken up:
If your list is broken up with the odd newline, you may need to hover your mouse over the first badly numbered number, right click and select 'Simple Numbered List' then 'Resume Previous List'.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
Here is the standard procedure to add an item within an existing numbered list:
1. First, make sure that “Autocorrect as you type” is checked in “Tools | AutoCorrect Options…” And also “Replace manual bulleting or numbering with automatic”.
2. Place the insertion cursor at the end of the list item that is located right before where you want to add a new item.
3. Press the Enter key.
Atlantis will automatically insert the appropriate number in the sequence, followed by a blank. Type any relevant text for the new item. Or paste the text if you copied it from somewhere else.
Note that step 2 above is different if you want to add a new item before the first number in a list. In such cases, you have to place the insertion cursor at the start of the fist list item, right after the “number+period” combination itself. And press Enter.
To delete an item in a numbered list, simply select the whole item, then press the Del key.
Now in rare cases, Atlantis might renumber the items wrongly. Here is how to correct wrong numbering:
1. Place the mouse pointer above the wrong list number until a list symbol is added to the cursor shape.
2. Click with the left mouse button. The “Bullets & Numbers” toolbar will pop up.
3. Click either “Resume previous list” or “Start new list” on the toolbar as appropriate. Atlantis will automatically renumber the whole list adequately.
Note that the Control Board Lists panel (F6) gives you a most practical and comprehensive overview of the various lists present in the active document. Using the Lists panel commands, you can manage your lists and reassign any item to its intended list.
Also please have a look at the corresponding Atlantis help topics either:
a. Online at http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en ... ists_2.htm
b. Or offline in the Atlantis help: Atlantis | Help | Contents > Formatting Documents > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Direct List Formatting.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

If your list was created with automatic numbering, it will be renumbered automatically when you add or remove items, provided both “Autocorrect as you type” and “Replace manual bulleting or numbering with automatic” are checked in “Tools | AutoCorrect Options…”357mag wrote:Actually when I created the list I'm pretty sure I chose Automatic. I remember going into Lists and choosing Simple Numbered or something like that. But when I changed things I did not see Atlantis automatically making adjustments.
