Headers and Footers from Doc files

Post by pdr »

Hi Atlantics:

I have a number of files that were created in Word, and saved as .doc files. They are letters, with the company information in the header on the first page, and numbering and other stuff in the header in the following page(s).

They have been saved as .doc files, but not as template (.dot) files, although they are actually used as templates. i.e. they are opened, then resaved with the Save As in their appropriate client folder.

I have set all .doc files to be opened with Atlantis. When I open one of the files with the header, the body of the letter appears, but the header does not.

I did find a kind of workaround, but I did not take notes, so cannot remember how I did it. :(

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can open .doc files and have the headers appear along with the rest of the file? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Peter

Could you please send your .doc file to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com?

Thanks for the DOC file. It does not have headers. It has text in text boxes (or frames). Sorry, but the present version of Atlantis Word Processor does not support text boxes.

Well, thanks for the information.

This (and the other) files were created with MS Word, and the text at the top appears to be a header, and I really thought that it is. So to check I opened the file that I sent to you with MS Word, and it appears as a header. Just above the dotted line that announces it, it is printed "First page Header".

I have attached a jpg file (having taken out personal information) to show what it looks like in Word (it appears at the bottom of this post.)

However, when I open it with Open Office Writer, it does appear as two separate text boxes, as you say. So, back to Word, in order to try to edit the First Page Header, I notice that it changes from the normal Header choices (Date, Page number etc.) to 2 Text Boxes.

Now, if I want to have a header with Company information and so on, will it be possible in Atlantis?

The header of your document is blank in any word processor. "Peter Name ..." is displayed in gray on your screen capture. This means that this text does not belong to the header. Simply your blank header and the text boxes share the same area of the document page (the text boxes overlap the header).
Now, if I want to have a header with Company information and so on, will it be possible in Atlantis?
Of course, it is possible. The modified version of your document has been emailed to you.

OK. thanks for clearing that up. And I always thought that I had a Header.

In fact, I wanted to have this "Header" on the first page only, with a different header (with dates, page number and other nonsense) on pages 2 and on. (Although I generally try to keep the letter to 1 page, max 2).

Terrific! Thanks very much. This will help to clear up a small frustration I had been having using Atlantis over Word.
Cheers,

Peter
