Custom heading styles

Post by AlexWilson »

Is it possible to customise heading styles and save them as a 'template'? and as well be able to have many different 'templates' thus saved?

I really love this program! :D

Cheers!

Creating custom Heading styles in Atlantis

Post by Robert »

Hi,
This is very simple in Atlantis. You just have to create custom Heading styles in each template. Here is how to go about it:

1. Create a new document (Ctrl+N).
2. If it isn’t already displaying, display the Control Board (F6).
3. On the Control Board top toolbar, click the “Styles” button (fourth from the left).
4. On the Control Board bottom toolbar, click the “New style” button (first on the left).
5. In the “New Style” dialog, give the style a name and optionally a hot key. Choose if you want the new style to be followed by a paragraph with same style, or by any of the other available styles. Use the buttons on the right to give the new style any suitable characteristics (font, paragraph, tab, list).
6. OK out of all dialogs.
7. Click “File | Save Special > Save As Template…”
8. Use the “Save Document As Template…” dialog to give your new template a specific name and save it.

Now, whenever you want to create a new document using a specific template with your custom Heading styles, click “File | Document Templates…” and select the appropriate template. When you get to a paragraph in the new document that you want as a Heading, place the insertion cursor within that paragraph and double-click any suitable Heading style on the Control Board. The Heading style will automatically be applied to the current paragraph, with all its original characteristics.

To create other similar templates, repeat steps 1 through 8.

Note that there is an alternative method. You could create one single template with many different Heading styles, and use that template whenever you want to import any appropriate Heading style(s) into a new document. In this way, you would not need to create so many different templates.
You can import styles from a document or a template with the “Import styles” button on the Control Board “Styles” panel (bottom toolbar).

Cheers,
Robert
