I want to get Atlantis to automatically show me any double spaces I have in my text.
I have an autocorrect that replaces any double spaces I accidentally type which works well. However, it's still possible for double spaces to appear if I remove some text. For example, in the sentence 'This and that', if I remove the word 'and', there'd be two spaces together which autocorrect wouldn't fix.
Ideally, I'd like Atlantis to stick a wavy red line underneath them as it does for a misspelled word but as far as I can tell I can't add misspelled words for it to look for, only correctly spelled ones. I know I can do a search and replace for double spaces but I'd like it (or, at least, the hilighting of them) to be automatic.
I've got a feeling there's probably a way of doing this but can't think what it might be - can anyone help?
Locating double spaces
Sorry, but the spellchecker could not report double spaces.
If you select "and" in your above sentence (to select a word, you can simply double-click it in Atlantis), then press Del, the "Smart Cut & Paste" of Atlantis would automatically remove the second space character. Of course, "Smart Cut & Paste" needs to be enabled on the "Edit" tab of the "Tools | Options..." dialog of Atlantis - it is on by default.

I do use 'Smart cut and paste' and, yes when I use it as you describe, that works. However, I don't always delete text like that. Sometimes it's just easier to press backspace or the del button a few times and that's the kind of time that double spaces can creep in.
Can I request identifying double (or more) spaces be added to the spellchecker's functionality?

First, it seems to me that accidental double spaces can easily be spotted when you create them with the Del or Backspace key. The human eye is naturally alert to minute differences such as single vs. double spaces. You should be able to notice a double space whenever you see one. If your eye cannot always tell the difference, you can switch on the display of the Special Symbols (pilcrow icon on the toolbars). When the Special Symbols mode is on, the double spaces are displayed as two dots. You could not miss them.
Now if you don’t want to be bothered with the Special Symbols, you can type ahead and ignore any double spaces that might creep in. When you have finished typing, simply click “Tools | AutoCorrect…” If the Atlantis AutoCorrect finds any double spaces after-you-typed, you’ll get a window asking you if you want to remove spare spaces or tab characters. If you then press the “Accept All” button, all the document double spaces will automatically be converted into single spaces.

If spotting double spaces was that easy, it wouldn't be a problem. I often do spot them but not all the time by a long way hence my request for a wiggly red line to hi-light them.Robert wrote:Hi Andy,

Manually setting off autocorrect might do the trick though. I hadn't thought of that - thanks.
By the way, I haven't been getting emails when this thread has updated (even though I'm subscribed to the topic) - perhaps it needs a kick?
Unrequired SPAM filters

If I am to believe what I read on the Web in several places, some ISPs apply SPAM filters to users’ email of their own accord, saying nothing to those most concerned, you. In such cases, turning off your personal SPAM filter is quite ineffective…
If at all possible, you should register the Atlantis email address(es) as “safe” addresses with your ISP or in your email account settings. It might help. It helped me in the past with my own Hotmail account.
