problems with Polish and Czech characters
problems with Polish and Czech characters
Hi, I tried to type some Polish and Czech characters by using the Atlantis “Insert | Symbol…” menu command, but failed. For example, I open “Insert | Symbol…” menu, then press s (symbol code 353), and it appears in the text without the accent. So, this is the problem and I have no idea how to solve it. Can you help me?
No. I found the character I needed by scrolling the list of characters. The number 353 appeared automatically when I pressed (once) the character.Robert wrote:Have you entered (typed) "353" in the "symbol code" box?
Yes.Robert wrote:Is "decimal" selected to the right of the "symbol code" box?
By double-clicking.Robert wrote:How are you trying to insert the character?
Yes.Robert wrote:Do you double-click the character in the character map?
Yes. I tried both double-clicking and pressing Insert. The result is the same in both cases.Robert wrote:Or do you press the Insert button?
I'll tell you more. I tried other charaters and...starting from number 370 it works (the accents do appear!). But the problems returns with Greek characters. No problems with Cyrillic and Arabic. So, I don't know. I'm really confused. It recognizes some characters but some doesn't. And it doesn't recognize Latin Extended set which I need
Can you please give me more detailed explanations on this (i didn’t really understand what i should do and try)?
Thank you, Robert, that you're trying to help me. I'm starting to guess that the problem is in my computer not just in the Atlantis settings. And it's not good
Robert wrote:Could you please try using the Windows Charmap?
By default, "C:\WINDOWS\system32\charmap.exe".
Try copy/paste UNICODE 161.
there is no such a font in my list of fonts. but i tried Lucida Sans Unicode, it didn't helpRobert wrote:Also try using Arial Unicode MS instead of plain Arial.

ok. i've got it! So i open charmap.exe, find my "s" (U+0161), copy+past in Atlantis and...nothing. The character is not recognized. But if i past in MS Word the character appears as it should, with accent. And what does it mean?istota wrote:Can you please give me more detailed explanations on this (i didn’t really understand what i should do and try)?Robert wrote:Could you please try using the Windows Charmap?

MS calls the Arial Unicode MS font "the universal font for Unicode".
Arial Unicode MS ships with Windows XP or MS Word. Here is from http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/ ... 01033.aspx:
"If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, the universal font for Unicode is automatically installed."
Note that you might be able to download it following this URL:

I just installed Arial Black and Arial Narrow on my PC. And I still don't see anything like Arial Unicode or Universal font for Unicode on my font list. Should it be there?Robert wrote: Note that you might be able to download it following this URL:

The latest 1.6.1.8.Robert wrote:Which version of Atlantis are you using?
If the character pastes correctly in MS Word, but not in Atlantis, there must be something wrong with your installation of Atlantis. On my system, Unicode 161 pastes just fine in Atlantis.
Note. It seems that Arial Unicode MS is also installed as part of the International Support features of MS Word. Here is from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287247/en-us:

Do you think I should delete Atlantis and then install it again?Robert wrote:If the character pastes correctly in MS Word, but not in Atlantis, there must be something wrong with your installation of Atlantis.

"Russifying your Computer" (Slavic fonts & keyboard drivers)
Windows Central and East European Fonts and Keyboard Drivers
Special Note for Windows users:
If you use any version of Windows 95 and up, you do NOT need to obtain fonts or keyboard drivers for most CE Languages. Microsoft includes CE support in the system software. For the newest versions of Windows, do the following: Go to "Control Panel" and double-click on "Regional Options". Choose the tab entitled "General". Towards the bottom are the language settings. Check "Central Europe" and choose "ok." For older versions of Windows, the process is slightly different. To install, do the following: Open Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Windows Setup tab, and select the Multilanguage Support check box. (Note: this will also install support for Greek, Cyrillic, etc.) Click "ok" and exit. Also, don't forget to install a keyboard. In the same Control Panel, double-click on the Keyboard icon. Go to Language and choose the one you need. You will have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect. The keyboard layout provided is based upon the typewriter layout used in each language.

Hope this helps.
