Hello Admin, Robert.
I am wondering How far the development of Atlantis will go. All my writing is done using Atlantis, I don’t really trust another word processor even word 2003 2007 etc. I have word 2003 and have tried word 2007, but I keep on using my trusty Atlantis. To me it is not only used for writing letters etc but for image viewing and basic desktop publishing. Anything more elaborate word 2003 has to come into play. After all that will Atlantis eventually surpass the others?.. Yes OK it is a word processor and not a desktop publisher, but one program to me is far better than having many installed on my comp. This is by no means a complaint but out of curiosity.
Thanks Medion.
How far will Atlantis go
Hi,
First, you can already do much more than just write letters with Atlantis Word Processor! We hope that you are aware of this. The current version of Atlantis can help you create quite complex style-controlled documents containing sections, headers, footers, outline numbered lists, etc.
Now some people like Swiss army knives. But Swiss army knives are good only for odd jobs. They are unfit for any serious job. As a general rule, Atlantis Word Processor will never attempt to be an "all-in-one" application, the Swiss army knife of word processing-cum-desktop publishing. If it did, it would end up doing everything, but poorly. And you'd be the first to be disappointed. MS Word 2007 can be used as a desktop publishing application, but it is highly questionable whether it is the best tool for the job. Among the MS offer, MS Publisher already does these things better. And in this field, you have a very adequate software offer with Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress if you are serious about desktop publishing. Would it make sense for Atlantis to try to emulate or rival the existing desktop publishing applications? We are certain it would not make sense.
Also note that as a private non-professional person, you might be better off hiring a professional desktop publisher if you have such a job to do. The big desktop publishing applications have a great learning curve.
This said, we will keep developing Atlantis Word Processor in the same spirit, with the greatest emphasis on practicality and user-friendliness. And Atlantis will include support for the traditional word processing features such as floating pictures, table layouts, etc.
Cheers,
Robert
