I often leave Atlantis open while I get on with other things (which may take an hour or two). When I maximise the Atlantis window and start typing after a gap like this, there always seems to be a pause of several seconds before Atlantis catches up and types all the characters in at once. After this initial hesitation it seems to carry on as normal.
It's possible it's a Windows problem (rather than Atlantis) but it's not a problem I notice with any other programme so I'm assuming it is Atlantis specific.
It's not a show stopper but it is pretty off putting and distracting (not to mention a little worrying) so I wonder if it's something that can be fixed?
Thanks.
Atlantis hesitating
There might be three possible explanations for this:
1) When you launch Atlantis, it does not automatically load the Power Type cache which might be quite big. Atlantis does this when you start typing text. The Power Type cache is loaded "in background" (as a separate Windows thread). But on slower PCs or when the Power Type cache is very big, there might be a small delay (for a second or two). The Power Type feature can be disabled.
2) When your PC does not have enough physical memory (RAM) for storing data of the running applications, Windows might move the data of some applications to the memory cache file on a hard disk. Reactivating such a "hibernated" application might lead to a short delay.
3) When you start typing after a long delay, Atlantis might decide to create a Safe Copy and/or a Backup File for the active document (there is a progress indication in the status bar of Atlantis). This might take time. The Safeguarding and Backup Files features can be disabled.
In either case there is no bug.

I tried those things and reduced the pause a little. The main part seems to be related to the size of the doc I'm working on which is 18meg. If I try it on a 'nomal' sized doc, there's no pause to speak of.
Given how quick Atlantis opens and navigates around the 18Mb doc (i.e. how brilliantly you deal with large docs), I wonder if it's possible to tweak Atlantis further to eliminate the pause when returning to a large doc?

Then my "suggestion #2" seems to be a quite probable explanation for this pause.
Another suggestion. If your document includes big pictures, and you use the "Page width" or "Text width" zoom, you could "improve the performance" by switching to any non-variable (fixed) zooming factor (just click in the "Zoom" toolbar box, type the desired zooming factor (a number between 10 and 500 inclusively), and press Enter). There would be a shorter delay when you switch between document windows in Atlantis.

I seem to have stumbled across a fix (well, a workaround) for this problem.
On a hunch I tried disabling the 'Keystroke' sound (which was set to the default typewriter effect) and discovered that by turning that and the auto backup option off (but keeping the 'safeguard' and 'Power Type' options on), I now get no delay when resuming typing on my large 18Mb document.
It's a minor thing but I do like the typewriter sound (and find it helpful for my two finger, eyes on the keyboard typing) so I wonder if it's possible to fix it to allow this to be on without causing the delay? I'd also like to be able to keep the backup option on so perhaps that could also be tweaked to fix the problem?
Thanks.
