Ctrl- Shortcuts for accents

Post by pdr »

Hi Atlantics:

In a number of word-processing programs, it is possible to have the following shortcuts to get certain accents over letters:

Ctrl+ ', then a letter to get the accent aigu: é or É

Ctrl+ ` then a letter to get the accent grave: à or è or ù

Ctrl + : then a letter to get the traima: ë

Crtl + Shift 6, then a letter for the circumflex : â or ê or ô or û
(shift 6 on my keyboard gives ^; on some others it may be
a different key)

Ctrl + , for the cédille: ç or Ç

These are available in, for example, Microsoft programs, as well as some others that I also use.

Even with the French dictionary installed in Atlantis, I was unable to have these control-combinations work.

Are they available through an option, or is this actually correctly places in this forum as a Feature Request?
Cheers,

Peter

Hi,
In Atlantis, you can easily assign your own shortcuts to these French characters.

1. Click “Insert | Symbol… > Character Map”
2. Select any appropriate font face (if necessary, you’ll be able to change it in the document afterwards).
3. Select the “Latin-1” subset.
4. Select a character in the map.
5. Click the “Change…” button.
6. Press any suitable keyboard shortcut.
7. OK out of the “Hot Key” dialog.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each French character you want a shortcut for.

Note that there is no real need to create shortcuts to capital letters. You can always insert a lowercase letter, then capitalize it by selecting it and pressing “Ctrl+Shift+F3” (or the corresponding toolbar button).

Also note that there is an alternative way to insert these French characters. You can include them in the “Symbols” Clip Library (rightmost panel on the Control Board). The characters can then be dragged & dropped into the document window.

Cheers,
Robert

You can access these accents in any Windows application as long as you have your keyboard layout as "US International". Even in Linux operating system.

- you can even access these accents with your keyboard layboard as "Norwegian". And then you also get direct access to Æ, Ø and Å!
