Deleting a language

Post by garza »

I sent an email on this before I remembered I could get into the forum without using Atlantis Help, which requires Internet Explorer which I don't have.

My problem is that Atlantis keeps defaulting to English-United States which I don't want to use, ever. There are too many misspelt words. I prefer using English-UK, or, as alternatives, English-Belize or English-Caribbean. How can I dump English-United States altogether - get it out of the system so it can't be used at all? I only need one language setting.

Most probably the default language (locale) in your Windows is “English (United States)” (you can change your locale through the Regional Settings of the Control Panel of Windows). This is why when you create a new document in your Atlantis, the “English (United States)” locale is automatically suggested for the document text.

You cannot remove the “English (United States)” locale from your Windows. But you can specify another default locale through the Regional Settings. Atlantis would automatically use that locale if your default document template does not include any explicitly specified language marking.

Alternatively you could open your default document template (by default, “Normal.rtf”) through the “File | Document Templates…” menu command of Atlantis, then choose the “Format | Default Language…” menu command, and instruct Atlantis to associate all new text of the active document with the desired locale (language). If you choose “English (United Kingdom)” as the default language for your default document template, any new text you add to your newly created documents would be automatically marked as belonging to “English (United Kingdom)”.

I appreciate both the reply here and the email. The fact is I have already done all that. Probably there is something, perhaps a small moth, in my copy of Windows that keeps forcing it back. When you consider that down here the bare-bones XP-SP2 is over five hundred dollars there should be no bugs at all.

I would like to switch one of my computers to Linux to see if that would solve such problems, but hesitate to undertake the job myself. Is there a Linux version that is genuinely easy to set up?

I suppose everyone knows that when you try to access the Atlantis site directly from the help menu it wants to use Internet Explorer, which I don't have. That's why I sent the email asking for help before I remembered this forum.

Are you sure that you cannot change the default locale in your Windows?

When you choose the "Help | Atlantis on the Web" menu command of Atlantis, your default Web browser is launched. Possibly something is wrong with your system configuration. If you removed MS Internet Explorer from your Windows, you should make another Web browser your default browser. For example, if you have Mozilla Firefox, choose the "Tools | Options..." menu command, then click the "Check Now" button on the General tab:
