Two questions: Active URL Links in Atlantis and auto-correct

Post by cinmcw »

I used to be able to paste a link into my document and the link would be active (I could click on it and it would take me to the website), but now when I cut and paste, the links are regular text and no longer active. How can I adjust my settings so that the links are active?

Also, how do I shut off auto-correct? Sometimes it is turned on (I don't know if I'm inadvertently clicking on something to activate it) and I can't turn it off.

Thank you so much for your help!

Greetings–
If you paste links using "Ctrl+V", or “Paste” from the “Edit” main menu, the links should get pasted as proper hyperlinks.
Note that Atlantis has “Use Ctrl+Click to follow hyperlinks” as an option on the “Edit” tab of the “Tools | Options” dialog. When that option is checked, you need to hold the “Ctrl” key down to be able to follow hyperlinks with a click.

As far as I know, there is only one way to switch AutoCorrect on or off. It is done by checking or unchecking “AutoCorrect as you type” in the “Tools | AutoCorrect Options…” dialog. This cannot be done inadvertently.

Thank you so much for your help, Robert! How come I used to just be able to copy and paste the links into my document without a problem and now I can't?

Greetings--
Do you copy these links from Web pages or from documents open in Atlantis?
How exactly do you copy these links?
Do you select them first, or do you right-click directly?
How exactly do you paste these links?
Cheers

I'm sorry, Robert! I had no idea you had responded!

I'm referring to the links in my address bar/window. I copy the link by right-clicking, copy, then paste into my document. All of the links I used to copy and paste used to be active within my document (meaning I could click on them in my document and be taken to the corresponding website), now they are not.

If I copy a link from a webpage, then paste into my document, this link IS active.

I guess I've done both, select, then right-click, and also just right-click.

Thank you so much for your response! I'm sorry I didn't realize you had done so! And thanks for your help!

Cindy

P.S. I just realized...I was having LOTS of email problems...maybe that's why I wasn't notified of your response.

Greetings--
There are only 2 possible reasons why pasted URLs are left as pure text in Atlantis:

1. As a general rule, Atlantis will convert URLs to active hyperlinks only if "Format Internet addresses with hyperlinks" is ON in the "Tools | AutoCorrect Options..." dialog (note that there is a similar option in MS Word. It is a standard option in most good word processors.)

2. Atlantis will automatically and immediately convert URLs to active hyperlinks only if "Autocorrect as you type" is also ON in this same "Tools | AutoCorrect Options..." dialog. Note that this conversion will happen only after you have typed some space, or punctuation sign, or character following the URL (Atlantis needs to know when and where the URL is ended.)

Now if you do not want to use "Autocorrect as you type", but still want URLs to be converted to active hyperlinks, you have to proceed as follows:

1. Switch "Format Internet addresses with hyperlinks" ON in the "Tools | AutoCorrect Options..." dialog.

2. After typing part or all of your text, click "Tools | AutoCorrect..." (or press the corresponding toolbar button).

And again, note that Atlantis has “Use Ctrl+Click to follow hyperlinks” as an option on the “Edit” tab of the “Tools | Options” dialog. When that option is checked, you need to hold the “Ctrl” key down to be able to follow hyperlinks with a click.

Hope this helps.
