I have searched the forum but cannot find the answer to my question.

Is it possible to show page margin borders when using columns ? (column borders)

Have you tried switching on the "Line between" option in the "Format | Columns" dialog?

I just tried this but I was hoping for the lines to be there during writing.

The "Line between" option is off by default. But you can always switch it on from the "Format | Columns" dialog.
Also note that a separating line will appear only when you have put a section break in the first column and you have started a new column.
