Hi -- I'm typing along, working on this listing I need to make, and have put in this text
(1) battery charger
and Atlantis indents the next line and puts (2) there, as if to help me with another enumeration. I do not desire this behavior. I only had one line, but stubbornly it keeps coming back. I need to know how to turn this OFF but, not being sure what the heck it's called, cannot locate such info in the help. Anybody familiar with this?

Click "Tools | AutoCorrect Options..."
Uncheck "Replace manual bulleting or numbering with automatic".
But you can keep this option on if most of the time you find it useful.
Exceptionally when you do not want items to be numbered automatically, press the Enter key twice instead of only once. This will remove the numbering that was automatically inserted.
