headings

Post by Andremusic »

I am using the Headers in the Control board for the outlining of my chapters in my novel and it works great. I feel the need however to see how long each chapter, and the sections inside the chapters are. Is there a way to make this somehow visible, like for example a page counter next to the name of the headings or a colored bar that gives the percentage of this part, compared with the other sections? Maybe I am asking something impossible here :?

First, headings and the text that follows them, do not necessarily occupy entire. I must say that what you are asking for is quite special (unusual).
Bit if you want to know how many pages are occupied by a particular chapter of your document (or how many words are contained by this chapter), you can click the desired headings in the Control Board, then click the "Select heading(s) and associated body text in the document window" button of the context toolbar of the Headings panel of the Control Board, then use the "Tools | Word Count..." menu command.

Thanks! Yes, I know I can do it this way, but I had a vision while writing, of a coloured bar next to the headers, seeing the text as if looking from above on a map. i believe this is more the way a screenwriting program works, where they have things like cards, spread out on the screen, each card containing an amount of text (like the sections in the headers).

No problem, I still love working the way it works now! :D
