Envelopes and address book

Post by John Stafford »

Beta b3 feels very good. A couple of things relating to the functionality of the address book. Inserting addresses into envelopes is very easy - I really appreciate that. However, is there no way to create a merge letter from the address book?

Also, to insert an envelope address properly, it has to be inserted First Name then Last Name. However, if I have a large number of names, it is much better to to list them in the address book alphabetically by last name. While I can this, I then cannot insert the name in the preferred first then last name.

Is there any way to get round that? Thanks, John

Every address has two components: the title and the address itself. Addresses are sorted by their titles. And you could adjust the address titles in any desired way. The address title can include any text (for example, "My friend", or "My company"). In your case, you could include "<last name><first name>" in the address titles. The addresses themselves would still include "<first name><last name>".

OK. But I'm importing say, 250 names and addresses from a CSV file. They import fine as First Name|Last Name - no problem. But to get the Address Titles as Last Name|First Name requires each entry to be altered individually. Quite lengthy after a large import. Is there an alternative?

Also, is there any chance of doing a mail merge letter? Thanks. John

Regrettably there is no way to do this automatically.

Hi, John!
Do you have access to any application with support for Regular Expressions?
If so, you could use Find/Replace and Regular Expressions to swap first and last names in the Atlantis Address Book files.
Cheers
