Slow hesitant typing
Slow hesitant typing
So you know, I bought Atlantis primarily for simple word processing and it's integrated spell checkers. My final (and perhaps best) determining factor was the sound effects; I love it.

But if I'm using the sound effects Atlantis is sooo slow.

Without sound it does OK. With sound effects it may take up to a full second for a single keystroke to appear on-screen. Plus if I'm typing fast sound effects quit anyway as if they can't keep up, and I may be a full line of text ahead of what's showing on-screen.

I've tested this and had the same results on both my OS's (dual-booting W98/SE and HomeXP, with 526 pc-100 RAM, 1.2GHz AMD)

Is this just the way it is? No work around? Thanks for "any" info, so long as I know if it's fixable or not.

Re: Slow hesitant typing
Of course, sounds should not cause such problems (no matter the operating system). It is very probably that your sound card driver used by Windows MCI (Media Control Interface) does not allow to play sounds asynchronously.

Maybe your sound card was shipped with additional software (/drivers) that could be customized in some way?

By the way, what is your sound card type?

Integrated AC97 Audio Codec: Avance ALC100 (RealTek)
http://www.ecsusa.com/K7VZA.cfm
Sorry this is to such an old post. Never realized I never updated it. As long as I installed the sound card driver for my motherboard from http://www.viaarena.com/ sound worked fine.
I've since installed an el'cheapo sound card, instead of using integrated sound from the mobo, and that works fine also.
