Marking discontiguous blocks

How do I mark discontiguous blocks and then apply one operation to these selections? I tried marking one paragraph by double-clicking to the left of it, held down Ctrl, and then tried either single or double-clicking another part, but the whole document was selected.

I am sorry but this is impossible. You cannot select discontiguous blocks.
