Annoying new feaures in Control board header panel

Post by djsmith911 »

I use the header panel in the control board to navigate my 500+ page book, and noticed that with version 5.x there is a lot of new behaviors that are less than productive. It's making me want to revert back to the free version because this was the feature that attracted me to the software in the first place. I use heading 2 to start off a book section, followed by a bunch of chapters with heading 3 so I can group things and collapse them for easier navigation. Sometimes I accidentally start grouping heading 4 chapters under a heading 3 chapter and I need to fix that, so I collapse that section, but when I drag the collapsed section up to level 2, all chapters remaining in the book collapse under it and the cursor drops to the bottom of the panel with that heading selected. This is all extra behavior that is completely unnecessary IMHO. This behavior just started with v5.x which is slightly less annoying than some of the weird behaviors introduced in later 4.x versions. They seem to be overthinking this feature to the point of making it a PITA to work with. I also don't like the increase in font size of heading 2 only. IMO all the headings should be the same font size but adjustable by the user. Thank you.

I do not think that there are new features in the "Headings" panel of the Control Board of recent versions of Atlantis. A collapsed heading of level N means that all the headings of level N+1, N+2, N+3, etc. that immediately follow this level N heading will be invisible in the "Headings panel". If you have the following chapter structure:

Code: Select all

          AAAAAAAAAA
                    BBBBBBBBBB
                               CCCCCCCCCC
                               DDDDDDDDDD
                    EEEEEEEEEEE
and you collapse the second heading:

Code: Select all

          AAAAAAAAAA
                [+] BBBBBBBBBB
                    EEEEEEEEEEE
then promote the collapsed heading by one level, the last heading will become a child item (a subheading) of the collapsed heading:

Code: Select all

          AAAAAAAAAA
          BBBBBBBBBB
                    CCCCCCCCCC
                    DDDDDDDDDD
                    EEEEEEEEEEE
And since the second heading is collapsed, all its child headings will be invisible:

Code: Select all

          AAAAAAAAAA
                [+] BBBBBBBBBB
By the way, have you tried promoting/demoting headings with drag & drop (in horizontal direction) vs the commands at the bottom of the "Headings" panel:
