Incomplete status bar, no View switches

Post by Moonraker »

Recently I downloaded the new free Lite version and have just wasted an hour trying to get the line number and word count to display on the status line. "Help" suggests "Use the "Tools | Customize | Status Bar..." main menu command to specify which sections should be displayed by the status bar".

Sadly my Tools menu doesn't offer a "Customize" option.

I thought that switching between Draft View and Print Layout View might help. "Help" says that "You can switch the view mode for the active document through the "View" menu, or by clicking the buttons above the vertical scrollbar in the document window", only when I try to do this nothing happens.

I reloaded the program, with no luck, and now have no settings and help buttons at top right"

Help, please

For the list of features unavailable in the Lite version, please see its home page.

Thanks for the link. So why does the illustration on the page to which the link leads show a status bar including the line number and word count, and why does the Lite Help section suggest how these can be activated?

Luckily my word-processing needs are quite basic nowadays so I can live with what I've now got, but I do wish I hadn't bothered to upgrade. I did try reverting to the free 1 6 6 5 version, but as soon I'd installed it (using a download direct from Atlantis rather a third party) I got a warning that I would have to pay $15 in 30 days' time, otherwise the program would disappear.

Version 1.6.6.5 was not free.

Version 1.6.6.5 never displays warnings about the upgrade fee, and upgrading to version 2.x+ for $15 is not possible anymore (the upgrade offer expired on Nov 2017).

The Lite version is not an upgrade to version 1.6.6.5.

You can download the setup file of 1.6.6.5 here.

The default configuration of the status bar depends on the screen resolution.

There are no Lite-specific Help topics. The Help topics describing the features unavailable in the Lite version, will soon include a corresponding note.

My screen resolution is 1024 x 768, as recommended by Atlantis. It seems strange to offer a new product with a set of Help topics some of which do not apply to it.

If the Help topics had been relevant and the illustration hadn't clearly shown word count and line number, then I wouldnn't have wasted an hour or more trying to sort it out.

Bit like buying the latest model of a new car and trying to work out a couple of gizmos, only to find the manual is for the previous model!

Still, it is free...

I tried this link and all went well. I got an immediate message that my evaluation period had expired and I needed a registration code, but entered the one that I had noted from years ago, which was accepted. Thanks.

Incidentally, the first time I downloaded Lite there were three icons, including one for Settings, at top right, but these were missing when I tried a second time.

Thanks again for your advice.

In version 3.x, there are two toolbar styles ("View | Toolbars | Style"). Those 3 icons are available under the "Tool Bands" style.
