A long, long time ago when pure ascii text-based editors were popular (think Boxer, the original TED, Simple text Editor, vedit, etc.), some of these programs allowed you to create boxes using ascii-based characters vertical and horizontal lines, etc. You could create a box using these characters ...

Not sure if this is a easier to program than developing tables for Atlantis....
but if you could expand the options for the columns feature so that you could:

Select 2 or more col umns for a section of a page rather than the entire page, you would be able to create a table-like structure.
